Special Election Results...Senate 41 (Paul Tinkler)

on Tue, 07/24/2012 - 03:19

It's official...Paul Tinkler came within 14 votes of winning a SC Senate seat that had been held by his opponent's party for decades, thanks to an endorsement from EdFirst.

The impact of our support was noted by both campaigns.  Long-term, that's a win for us, even if the result was not what we hoped.

Because it was a special election, this seat will be contested again in November.

Life doesn't give many do-overs.

Nobody likes hearing that they need to do better next time, but in this case, it's just a tiny bit better...and there's a lot more we can do.

While our votes are precious, we can multiply their impact by mobilizing others to vote for candidates who support strong schools.

The video below explains how Paul Tinkler earned EdFIrst's endorsement, and more importantly, how candidates are evaluated for those endorsements.  Lip service to education is not enough anymore.  We're looking for a demonstrated committment to critical education issues.

It also talks about the fact that we're a non-partisan organization.

We have one party in SC that has a hard time prioritizing education, and another party that has a hard time earning the confidence of voters.  Both can do better, and they both need our help to get there.

The solution is to evaluate individuals on their merits.  I'm proud to have endorsed Paul Tinkler, and look forward to seeing him in office.
